Aaron Rodgers is a professional American football quarterback who currently plays for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on December 2, 1983, in Chico, California, to Edward and Darla Rodgers. Rodgers has two brothers, Luke and Jordan, who also played college football.
Growing up, Rodgers was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and idolized their
quarterback, Joe Montana. He attended Pleasant Valley High School in Chico,
where he played football, basketball, and baseball. In his junior and senior
years, he was the starting quarterback for the school's football team and led
them to a combined 21-3 record.
Despite his success in high school, Rodgers received only one scholarship offer to play
college football, from the University of Illinois. However, he decided to
attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he redshirted his freshman
year and then became the starting quarterback in his sophomore year.
In his junior year, Rodgers led the Golden Bears to a 10-2 record and a victory in the
Holiday Bowl. He set several school and conference records that season,
including the highest passer rating in the Pac-10 Conference. In his senior
year, he set a school record with 23 touchdown passes and led the team to a 7-4
record.
Despite his success in college, Rodgers was not selected until the 24th pick in the
first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, when the Green Bay Packers drafted him as
the heir to Brett Favre, one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
Rodgers spent his first three seasons in the NFL as Favre's backup, learning from one
of the best in the business. He made his first NFL start in 2008, when Favre
was injured, and led the Packers to a 24-19 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
In 2009, Rodgers had his breakout season, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns
while leading the Packers to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth. He was named
to his first Pro Bowl that year and was selected as the NFC's starting
quarterback.
Rodgers continued to excel in the NFL, setting numerous records and leading the Packers
to several playoff appearances. In 2010, he led the team to a victory in Super
Bowl XLV, where he was named the game's Most Valuable Player (MVP) after
throwing for 304 yards and three touchdowns.
In 2011, Rodgers had one of the best seasons by a quarterback in NFL history, throwing
for 4,643 yards and 45 touchdowns while leading the Packers to a 15-1 record,
the best in the league. He was named the NFL MVP that year and was selected to
his second Pro Bowl.
Rodgers continued to play at a high level in the following years, earning multiple Pro
Bowl selections and setting several NFL records. In 2014, he signed a five-year
contract extension with the Packers worth $110 million, making him one of the
highest-paid players in the league.
In 2016, Rodgers led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the
Atlanta Falcons. That year, he threw for over 4,400 yards and 40 touchdowns
while leading the league in passer rating.
In 2017, Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone in a game against the Minnesota Vikings
and missed several weeks of the season. He returned in Week 15 and led the
Packers to a victory over the Carolina Panthers, but the team missed the
playoffs for the first time since 2008.
In 2018, Rodgers signed a four-year contract extension with the Packers worth $134
